Advances in Atomic, Molecular And Optical Physics Benjamin Bederson contributed to the world of physics in many areas: in atomic physics, where he achieved renown by his scattering european journal of physics and polarizability experiments, as the Editor-in-Chief for the American Physical Society, where he saw the introduction of electronic publishing european journal of physics and a remarkable growth of the APS journals, with ever increasing world-wide contributions to these highly esteemed journals, european journal of physics and as the originator of a number of international physics conferences in the fields of atomic european journal of physics and collision physics, which are continuing to this day. The first part of this volume of Advances in Atomic, Molecular european journal of physics and Optical Physics (AAMOP), entitled Benjamin Bederson: Works, Comments european journal of physics and Legacies, contains articles written from a personal perspective. His days at Los Alamos during World War II, working on the A bomb, are recounted by V. Fitch. H. Walther writes on the time when both were editors of AAMOP. H. Lustig, E. Merzbacher european journal of physics and B. Crasemann, with whom Bederson had a long-term association at the American Physical Society, contribute their experiences, one of them in the style of a poem. C.D. The Disparity of European Integration This new study revisits the work of the late Ernst Haas, assessing his relevance for contemporary European integration european journal of physics and its disparities. With his seminal book, The Uniting of Europe Haas laid the foundations for one of the most prominent paradigms of European integration neo-functionalism. He engaged in inductive reasoning to theorize the dynamics of the European integration process that led from the Treaty of Paris in 1951 to the Treaty of Rome in 1957. The Treaty of Rome set the constitutional framework for a Common Market. Today, a second Treaty of Rome may lay the foundation for a European Constitution that embeds the Common Market in a European polity. Unfortunately, Haas will not be able to witness this path-breaking step in the development of a European political community, which he so aptly theorized almost five decades ago. This is all the more regrettable since students of European integration are more than ever challenged to tackle a major empirical puzzle: After 50 years ofEuropean integration, the member states managed to adopt a single currency european journal of physics and to develop common policies european journal of physics and institutions on justice european journal of physics and home affairs. The integration of foreign policy european journal of physics and defense, by contrast, is still lagging behind. This text delivers sharp insights into these issues.
